Use p{width} for your column specifiers instead of l/r/c. With the regular tabular environment, you want to use the p{width} column type, as marcog indicates. But that forces you to give explicit widths. but then all the factors have to sum up to 1, I suppose (I took this from the LaTeX companion).

Thanks, that’s true. It is an awkward hack though. Some tables I have are rotated and have 15 columns. This makes for a lot of extbf ‘ing (not that text would be inclined to do so…). Surely there is a more elegant way of making an entire row bold?
