Do all outboards have a pee hole?
Outboard Motor Isn’t Peeing. Most outboard motors are equipped with a cooling system using outside water. Outside water is circulated through cooling passages before leaving through the motor’s pee hole. You’ve seen it!
Where should water come out on an outboard motor?
The cooling system on an outboard is a very simple and compact application. Water is inducted through the lower unit by a water pump impeller, and then forced upward to circulate throughout the powerhead, and eventually exits through the exhaust system.
Why is my outboard not peeing?
Re: Outboard suddenly not peeing The impeller is probably broken. Don’t run it anymore with no water flowing!!!! Take the lower unit off, disassemble the water pump, and you should know right away if something is amiss. I’m sure if you go to a merc dealer you can buy a water pump kit to replace the broken parts.
Should the water coming out of my outboard be hot?
It should be warm but not super hot. The water coming from the engine should be warm also. When it’s warm you know the water is pulling heat out of the engine to keep it cool like it should. Something like how a radiator works.
How much water should be coming out of outboard?
Active member. Re: How much coolant water should be comming out of my outboard? Usually the cooling water pisses out of a small hole under the power head. There should be a hols approx 3 mm diameter facing down and a bit out.
Can I run my 2 stroke outboard without a thermostat?
Running it without a thermostat will cause the engine to run cooler, not overheat. Running the engine with a STUCK thermostat could damage the engine (incl overheating) depending at what temperature the thermostat stuck.
Can you run a outboard motor without a thermostat?
Yes, you can temporarily run your outboard without the thermostat and not harm the engine. No, you can not remove the thermostat and continue running the engine for long periods of time without causing harm to the engine. Here is a brief breakdown of why the thermostat is so important.
Can I drive without a thermostat?
Generally it should be ok to drive without the thermostat fitted, as it will only cause the engine to take longer to reach operating temperature. The thermostat is designed to allow the engine to reach ideal operating temperature as quickly as possible, so it would not be recommended to drive without it.
How do I know if my outboard thermostat is bad?
If the thermostat is stuck open. The engine will run a lot colder. For 2-Strokes, it can cause a rough or poor running condition.
What are signs of a bad thermostat?
Symptoms of a Bad or Failing ThermostatTemperature gauge reading very high and engine overheating. The first and potentially most alarming symptom will be the temperature gauge reading high into the red within the first 15 minutes of your vehicle engine running. Temperature changing erratically. Coolant leaks around the thermostat housing or under the vehicle.

Does my outboard need a thermostat?
Yes, you can temporarily run your outboard without the thermostat and not harm the engine. No, you can not remove the thermostat and continue running the engine for long periods of time without causing harm to the engine. Here is a brief breakdown on why the thermostat is so important.
What happens if an outboard motor overheats?
The cooling system keeps the oil temperature down so the oil can lubricate the internal parts of the engine. Overheating ruins the lubrication and the metals parts start melting and sticking together.
Do all outboard motors have a thermostat?
Most outboard motors have one or two thermostats that are located in the power head of the engine. No matter how good the water pump may be, if the thermostats are stuck closed that engine is going to overheat.
Can you run a Mercruiser without a thermostat?
I’ve run petrol engines without thermostats. As long as the engine eventually gets up to temp and you take it easy until it does (otherwise the thicker oil might mean inadequate lubrication) I can’t see any other problem.
Can I run my Jeep without a thermostat?
you will be fine running without a thermostat around the city, offroad, or on the highway. unless it is really cold, then the engine might not get warm fast enough for your comfort.
Do 2 stroke outboards have thermostats?
yes, they do have thermostat.
What does a thermostat do on an outboard motor?
The thermostat prevents the cooling water from getting to the cylinder walls until there is enough heat for efficient combustion. Once the cylinder temperature is up, the thermostat allows the cooling water to flow from the water pump through the water jacket and out the exhaust.
How hot should a outboard motor run?
Raw water cooled engines should operate between 140 and 160 degrees. Fresh water engines should run at 170-210 degrees.
