How hard is the MacLehose Trail?
A footpath runs inland, meeting the MacLehose Trail, which then climbs up and away from the area, and through hills to meet the road at Pak Tam Au. Toughness: 4/5 for the full route; 1/5 for Sai Wan only; 2/5 for North Tai Long Wan.
How long does the MacLehose Trail take?
48 hours
Participants are required to complete the full 100 kilometres within 48 hours, passing through nine checkpoints along the way. The route as of January 2021 follows the MacLehose Trail from Pak Tam Chung to Tai Mo Shan, then descends to Route Twisk following the old pre-2009 route along Tai Mo Shan Road.
How do you get sharp peak?
There are a number of trails to get to Sharp Peak. The relatively easy route is to take a ferry at Wong Shek Pier to Chek Keng, go uphill along MacLehose Section 2 and ascend along Nam She Tsim path to the summit. Take the same route back on your return.

Stage 1 is pretty easy, save for a few uphill sections. The scenery is wonderful, but stage 2 just blows all that out of the water. Easily one of the most stunning hikes we have done. We comfortably completed stage 1 in about 2.5 hours and started stage 2 around 1 o’clock.
