Cost: A single brace can cost from $100 to $200, yet virtually none of the manufacturers said the up-front cost of the purchase was a major hurdle. Contractors who pour multiple projects year after year know that a good brace will actually save them money in the long run.
How do you anchor an ICF wall?
There are four methods we recommend for attachment.
- Attaching the Micro Lam to the ICF with anchor bolts. Cut (say) 4″ diameter holes in the ICF wall which are centered around each anchor bolt.
- Using Simpson ICFVL brackets to attach the floor system.
- Supporting Ledger with Concrete.
- Stem wall, Narrowed at Top.
When can I remove ICF bracing?
If the walls are below grade and are to be backfilled, remove the bracing after the wall has developed adequate strength and is supported laterally at the top by the floor or roof, and at the bottom by the floor. Above grade walls should also be allowed to cure properly to obtain adequate strength.
How often do you brace ICF?
A good bracing system is very important. We suggest placing the braces every 5 feet. Some ICFs require bracing on each corner while others only need it on tight corners that will take more pressure during a pour. Securely anchor the brace to the floor with self-tapping concrete screws if bracing to concrete.

How do I speed up ICF?
Wall coverings can typically be attached to the ties or webs in your ICF system with #6 or #8 Type W (coarse thread) drywall screws. The screws must be corrosion resistant and have a sufficient length to penetrate the plastic tie or web a minimum of ¼” (6.4mm).
