How to apply Collagenase SANTYL◊ Ointment
- Cleanse. Gently cleanse the wound with sterile saline, or as directed by your healthcare professional.
- Apply. Apply SANTYL Ointment directly to the wound source once a day at a 2 mm thickness, or about the thickness of a nickel.
- Cover.
- Change.
Can Santyl be refrigerated?
Do not refrigerate SANTYL Ointment or expose it to heat. Store SANTYL Ointment at room temperature (no higher than 25°C or 77°F). As with all medications, keep out of the reach of children.

Can you use Santyl twice a day?
Santyl is usually applied once daily. You may need to apply it more often if the wound area becomes soiled.
What’s the best way to apply santyl ointment?
If your doctor has directed you to use an antibiotic powder, apply it first before applying this medication. Use a wooden spatula or a gauze pad to carefully apply the collagenase ointment directly to the affected area. Bandage securely.
Are there any products that interact with santyl?
Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor’s approval. Some products that may interact with this drug include: antiseptic skin products (especially those containing heavy metals such as lead, mercury, silver). Skin products containing heavy metals may decrease the effect of collagenase.
